Who We Are

Wings of Change

Wings of Change is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We run bi-annual international missions to support women and children living in poverty through education, nutrition, and direct resource delivery.

Heather Trompeter went to Makoko, Nigeria — a water community on the edge of Lagos where children grow up largely outside the reach of the city's schools. She came home changed. She told people what she'd seen. Ninety-eight of them donated. That first campaign raised $10,600 and funded a full year of school for 100 children who had never been enrolled. Wings of Change was born out of that response, and out of a belief Winston Churchill put plainly: "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."

What We Believe

Travel changes the people who do it. We think it should change the people who don't get to.

Mission 1

Nigeria

In partnership with United Airlines employees through the company's volunteer giving program.

In 2024, Wings of Change delivered 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies across three Lagos communities: Makoko, Saga, and Takwa Bay. 1,100 children received supplies that day, in partnership with United Airlines employees through the company's volunteer giving program.

We also partnered with Slum2School Africa to fund full-service scholarships for 100 children who had never been enrolled in school — uniforms, textbooks, medical care, psychosocial support, teacher salaries, and a desk to sit at.

One of those 100 children is Avose Cynthia. She was five years old when she started. Wings of Change committed to keeping her in school for twelve years. No organization we know of has made a public, documented commitment like that to a named child. We're doing it.

Mission 2

India

Neha shows up. Every day, even when her parents have already left for work and the morning stretches out in front of her with no one home and nothing ready to eat. She's shy, her teachers say. But she comes.

What she doesn't always have is breakfast. For Neha, the meal waiting at school isn't a perk. It's the thing that makes the rest of the day possible. The routine of it, the reliability of it, anchors her. A school meal isn't charity for Neha. It's what continuity looks like.

Mission 2: India

The Partner and the Kids

Akshaya Chaitanya is a Mumbai-based NGO that cooks fresh meals daily and delivers them to schools across the city. They've been doing this for years, at scale, with a verified track record. They know which schools are being skipped. Wings of Change is funding the gap.

Neha is one of hundreds of children in this school. So are Sneha, Makrand, Yogita, and Shifa.

Sneha, 8

She loves drawing and painting. Bright and cheerful. Her energy drops without a consistent meal.

Makrand, 16

His father died two years ago. He leaves home most mornings on tea and a biscuit. He wants to be a scientist.

Yogita, 14

School starts at 12:30 but recess isn't until 3:15. She studies on an empty stomach every day. She wants to be a police officer.

Shifa, 15

She dreams of representing India in rugby. The meal is what gives her energy to keep going.

Mission 2: India

One School. One Year.

One meal costs $0.40. Less than a postage stamp. A full school year of meals for every child in Neha's school costs $12,500. We're raising that by September.

Questions

Does Wings of Change run a new campaign every year?

No. We run campaigns in even-numbered years — one country, one partner, one campaign at a time.

How does WOC choose which country and partner to support?

The board identifies a cause area first, then researches which countries face the most acute need and vets local nonprofits for a verified track record. The vetting takes time. We learned early that moving fast without verification is how money disappears.

Why do board members travel to every mission?

Because we watch delivery happen ourselves. After an early experience where a wire transfer was stolen before it reached anyone, we don't send money and wait for a report. We go. We're there when the backpacks are handed out and when the meals are cooked and served.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. Wings of Change is a registered 501(c)(3). All donations are fully tax-deductible for US donors.

How do I know the money actually reaches kids?

We go. Every mission includes board members in the community, watching delivery happen.
